When I attempt to tell briefly of the wondrous help and...
When I attempt to tell briefly of the wondrous help and benefits derived from the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science, words fail to do justice to my ever increasing sense of gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her great discovery. I was healed in three weeks of a physical disturbance of long standing, after searching for health in climate, in drinking various mineral waters at their natural sources, in diet, outdoor living, and other means. Several physicians in both Europe and America conscientiously did their utmost for me and while at times there was temporary relief, I realized that medicine had failed to establish health. Unable to interpret its message, the Bible had long since become a closed book. Much time was spent in reading isms and ologies, making journeys to libraries in various cities to obtain books, in search of a philosophy teaching an invariable and immutable principle. This search offered only speculative theories, incapable of demonstrable application, therefore proving futile. The result was that I was becoming more and more discouraged and was lapsing into a condition of mental depression, of torment and despair, which was all the more acute because known only to myself and quite hidden from and unsuspected by my family and friends.
Man's extremity, indeed, proved to be God's opportunity. Health, as an attribute of God, obtainable now by realizing that it is man's inherent right because he lives under the operation of spiritual and not man-made laws, has been permanently established. By knowing the absoluteness, completeness of the truth about God and man, and the unreality of evil, the nonintelligence of matter, Life now stands out in contrast, in bold relief, for what it really is. The Bible promises, prophecies, and spiritual import of the words and works of the Master, Christ Jesus, are being revealed to mankind, and I am grateful to be able to touch the hem of Christ's garment. Periodical attacks of laryngitis became less frequent and disappeared into their native nothingness as the verity of the Science of being was apprehended and the understanding of Truth unfolded to my thought. Christian Science has given the Bible back to me. Problems innumerable which seemed impossible of solution through material means have yielded naturally through my heeding Mrs. Eddy's counsel as given on page 455 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "You must utilize the moral might of Mind in order to walk over the waves of error and support your claims by demonstration." While on the train journeying to a distant city after the passing away of a dear brother, I was completely healed of sorrow by the truth which impregnates the following stanza from Mrs. Eddy's "Communion Hymn" (Poems, p. 75):—
