I regard as a special privilege the opportunity given to us by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, of testifying to healings experienced, "for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." I have experienced a wonderful healing, in addition to many other proofs, and I am happy in having the privilege of making it known. Some time ago I suffered from severe pains throughout the whole upper part of the body, seemingly the result of overstrain. I tried to help myself by declaring the truth as we are taught to do in Christian Science, but I was later obliged to remain in bed. A physician who at that time was living in our home stated that the lungs were affected and that I had pleuritis. During the ensuing three months I would at times feel better and then worse again. I was obliged to remain in bed a great deal of the time, and was having Christian Science treatment. Early in the spring I decided to take a trip to the South, but on the day set for my departure I became suddenly worse, every movement causing me great pain. My family called a physician who diagnosed the trouble as severe spinal meningitis, and stated that I must lie upon an orthopedic bed. At first my mother and I were disturbed but I very soon regained my composure, and upon my silent question: Why should this happen? these words came to me: "That the works of God should be made manifest in him." Now I had fully regained my composure for I had implicit faith in God's all-power and love, whose child I am. During the whole of the three and one-half months spent upon the orthopedic bed I was cheerful and no difficulties presented themselves, thanks to the faithful work of a practitioner. Toward the end of July I was able to arise, and upon doing so it was evident that I had retained my strength, but three large abscesses had formed on my back, causing me severe pain.

At the beginning of August I traveled to another city, upon the urgent advice of those surrounding me, to have an X-ray photograph taken. After three had been taken the doctor stated that I must return home without delay where I would be obliged to spend a further half year in a plaster cast, as the upper half of the spine was diseased. He also said: "I am surprised that you are able to walk at all, for another in your condition would be unable to do that. I can prescribe nothing for you but lying down; nature must attend to the rest, if it is not too late." I met these erroneous thoughts immediately with the understanding that nature is Life, Truth, and Love; consequently I did not need a plaster cast or other help from the physician. My duty lay before me clearly, and I immediately wrote to the physician stating that I was going to rely wholly on Christian Science treatment. Instead of returning home I remained in this city for nearly five weeks, for I had a great desire to attend the church services. During these weeks I had some trying battles to pass through, for repeatedly error tried to assert its seeming power and endeavored to whisper to me that I would never be well again. But the stronger seems the error, so much mightier does the truth work in us, and I was healed.

For this beautiful experience I am very grateful, also that I am again able to fulfill my duty in our business. But what would my physical healing amount to without the spiritual uplift which I gained? For this I am deeply thankful to God, and endeavor to constantly do His will. I am deeply grateful to the practitioner for all the love and patience expressed, as well as to the dear friends for their love. No small amount of gratitude is due those who faithfully participate in this beautiful work.—(Mrs.) Clara Hupfer, Amden, Ct. St. Gallen, Switzerland.
