It is a joy to bear witness to the healing power of Christian Science
It is a joy to bear witness to the healing power of Christian Science. This wonderful teaching was first brought to my notice by my husband, when I was sorely in need of something more than medicine could offer. I had tried various religions and creeds, but none ever sustained me in my ills and sorrows. When I first began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I could understand very little, as God to me represented a magnified being, ready to punish us for every broken law. Of God as infinite Love I had never heard. After months of such weakness that life seemed hardly worth while I was told how to study the Lesson-Sermons, and in June, 1915, began to study Christian Science earnestly. I have never taken any medicine since. I gained slowly in strength—just in proportion to my application of what I understood. In February, 1917, I entered my children in the Sunday school and after that walked the three miles with them every Sunday.
I wish to relate the healing of my eldest boy, now eleven years old. On the request of the school nurse we had him examined by a child specialist who said he had the symptoms of St. Vitus' dance, also that his throat was in a bad condition. Only strict dieting and medicine, we were told, would keep him from serious trouble. After one present and four absent Christian Science treatments I felt that the child was healed. A year later he was pronounced in perfect condition, in spite of the fact that he made the fifth and sixth grades in school as well as practiced an hour each day on the violin during the year. We study the Lesson-Sermon every morning before the day's work is begun.
Having been born in Germany and having practically all my relatives in that country, and my husband in the service of the United States, the recent war presented the problem of knowing the true brotherhood of men, and that in doing all we could both mentally and materially to help win the war, we were truly helping our brethren in that misguided land.
