I first heard of Christian Science five years ago, when my condition seemed hopeless and I felt "without God in the world." I was indeed a miserable woman, and really wanted to die. For twelve years I had been suffering from a skin disease in its most aggravated form. Friends seemed to desert me; even my own people hardly realized how I suffered. In hot weather I could not sleep for the intense itching. I was cross and mean, and made every one unhappy who came into my presence. I had taken so much medicine that it had failed to have any effect, and physicians finally declared the case incurable. My neck and arms were so disfigured that I hated myself, and I was deprived of the pleasure of being with friends. I was growing weak mentally, and I knew it.
One day a neighbor spoke of Christian Science and what it would do for me. I told her I was willing to try anything, so she gave me all the Science literature I wanted, also let me read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I became so deeply interested that I could not leave the book alone. I read almost constantly for a few months, and before I knew it the eruption had entirely disappeared and I was a new woman—my thoughts ran in an entirely different channel. I saw the light of Truth, repented earnestly, and after studying diligently I began to apply the knowledge that had been gained. I became conscious of the fact that the kingdom of God is here and now.
Though thus healed in Christian Science, I have always considered the physical betterment the smallest part of the good which it has brought into my life. To know and prove that "now are we the sons of God" and that God is ever present, is of greater importance. I have proven many times that God is my strength and supply. I was also suffering from rheumatism, but am now free, and the truth made me so. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for the interpretation of God's word, because it helped me to pray aright and to help others. My heart swells with gratitude for Christian Science, which is so practical in every way. My daily prayer is that I may reflect such love that all may know I have found the truth which Christ Jesus said should make us free.
