Although I knew nothing of Christian Science, I was interested in a testimony I saw in a copy of the Sentinel which had been sent to me by a friend, and the many benefits received since that time remind me that some one who is suffering as I was, may be interested in my healing.
Over three years ago I had very serious inflammation of the right eye. It was third attack of the kind from which I had suffered, and on each previous occasion I had been confined to a dark room for two months. The last time I spent over two months in the dark room and in the hospital, though I was finally able to get out and return to work, but could use only my left eye, as the right one seemed to continue to be inflamed, and rapidly grew worse if exposed to any light. It was necessary to keep it closed, with all light excluded by bandages; and though I continued treatment with several specialists, there seemed to be no improvement. By removing the bandage a minute at a time, when there was only a little light, I found that with the right eye I could hardly distinguish objects, unless they were very large, and could not read with it, however large the print.
I was told that I could never use this eye again, to amount to anything, if at all, and could get no hope from the physicians as to when I could go without the bandage. In this condition I asked a friend what Christian Science would do for my trouble, thinking there would be no answer. I explained to this friend how the pupil had to be dilated to prevent my becoming blind, and that there was only one remedy known by the doctors which would do this, so it seemed to me that Christian Science could be of no avail in such a case. The reply to my question was, "It would heal you!" No more was said at the time, but later I received copies of the Sentinel and the journal, and a testimony regarding a similar case interested me.
