In April, 1908, I was suffering from pain on a spot where I had as a child received a severe blow from a cricket-ball. I was examined by a doctor in this town, and he advised an early operation; but as he was just leaving for a five-weeks holiday, it was agreed that I should wait until his return. A lady who was staying in my home at the time, asked me why I did not try Christian Science first. I answered that I knew nothing about it. She then told me how she had been cured by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and more with the desire to please my friend than to have Christian Science treatment, I wrote to a practitioner in Zurich and asked for information. She very kindly sent me some literature on the subject, and I was astonished indeed to find what I called a reasonable religion, without any contradictions about God, and something which I could accept.

I had long been dissatisfied with religion as I knew it, and felt like a hypocrite every time I went to church; so I gradually left off going, and decided to act up to my conscience, as nearly as possible, until I saw my way more clearly. In Christian Science, however, I found what I needed,—something to guide me in all my actions, a religion which met my highest ideals and promised to give a solution to every human problem. I speedily asked for treatment, and was well before the doctor returned from his holiday. Since then my every need has been met most wonderfully, and the blessings never cease to flow.

It is nearly five years since the operation was to have taken place, and I have had no further trouble whatever from the ailment. I have experienced other healing since then, and am very grateful. So-called poisoning in one foot was soon overcome, and an internal trouble with violent pain at intervals for about a year was finally destroyed. I am perfectly well, and my household of eight persons has not had a doctor for five years. I can never find words for my thankfulness to God for a knowledge of Truth; and it can only be by an active life, ever striving to practise the truth, that I can show my gratitude to our brave Leader. My heart gladly echoes the words, "Glory to God in the highest."—Mrs. S. E. Welti, Bern, Switzerland.
