Rocky Mountain News
Formulas are not used by genuine Christian Scientists, and there is a by-law in The Mother Church Manual which prohibits the use of formulas. The healing work is only accomplished by reason of a continuous life of purity and consecration, in accordance with the teachings of the Saviour when he healed the epileptic, saying, "This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting." Only in proportion to his own purity, goodness, and correct understanding of God is the Christian Scientist able to realize God's healing power and presence, which displaces the fears, the sick and sinful mind-pictures, with the good and true, with thoughts of holiness, health, and harmony.
Christian Scientists acknowledge and recognize God as the only healing power, and they do not limit God's healing potency merely to "functional disorders." They have proven with scientific accuracy God's healing law in the destruction of all forms of disease known to mankind. In our own city of Denver are hundreds who have been healed of both functional and organic diseases. There are instances of the complete healing of tuberculosis in its last stages, cases which the honest investigator can readily authenticate.
Christian Science does not teach dogmas. "On the other hand," writes Mrs. Eddy, "the Christian opponents of Christian Science neither give nor offer any proofs that their Master's religion can heal the sick. Surely it is not enough to cleave to barren and desultory dogmas, derived from the traditions of the elders who have thereunto set their seals" (Science and Health, p. 354).
