Bradford (Eng.) Telegraph
Apart from what Mrs. Eddy has done for her immediate followers, she has proved to the world the present availability of the healing Christ, the tangible benefits that accrue from the spiritual life, and the cause of temperance has received an impetus from her teachings that will carry it triumphantly through to the utter destruction of the drink and drug habit. Let those who doubt, wait and see.
Certainly our critic's views of the atonement are not those of Christian Science. Christian Scientists know that God did not place man on earth under such a stress of circumstances that the All-knowing must have recognized that sooner or later he must keel over. And they do not believe that, having accomplished man's fall, He then demanded the sacrifice of a living and dutiful Son to appease or satiate a sense of revenge or hatred. If one half of what is attributed to our loving Father, God, was attributed to a man, a Nero or a Herod would be declared better than such an one. But, "Shall man be more just than God?" When Christendom understands that the blood of Christ signifies the life of Christ, it will have gone a long way on the road to the understanding of that truth which Jesus declared would "make you free." In the chapter in Science and Health on the atonement, Christian Science explains how we are saved by the life and love of God and His Christ, and it is so clearly enunciated that those who run may read.
