It is now three years since I became interested in Christian Science, and it is with a heart overflowing with gratitude for what it has done and is doing for me, that I gladly send my testimony, trusting that by it some one may be led to investigate this grand truth and find it all that is claimed for it. For five years I was a physical wreck, a condition brought about by overwork in the schoolroom, grief, and an accident which had resulted in a fractured hip, internal, injuries, and spinal trouble. Many good physicians were consulted, and there is no doubt that they worked to their highest understanding to effect a cure; but each year found me gradually growing worse, with little hope of my recovery. At last a specialist in San Francisco was consulted, and I was treated by him for three months. At the end of that time, seeing no improvement in my condition, he advised a serious spinal operation, without which he claimed my case would be incurable; with it, I might be relieved—only time could tell!
I did not favor an operation, and two months later went to San Jose to spend the summer. There I first learned of Christian Science and what it was doing for mankind. Without delay I visited a practitioner, asked for treatment, and in less than two weeks was relieved of all suffering. In five weeks I returned home, resumed work in the schoolroom, and since that time have been able to do more successful work than in the ten years previous to my illness. I came to Christian Science especially for physical benefits, but it has given me an understanding of the Bible far beyond my expectations. To say that I am grateful to God, and to our dear Leader, for all this, does not adequately express my feelings, but that I may be able by my deeds to prove my worthiness to be called a Christian Scientist, is my desire.
Another case of healing, which to me seemed more wonderful than mine, was that of my mother, who had suffered for twenty years from stomach trouble. Every known remedy was given a thorough trial, including medicines, baths, massage, electricity, and change of climate. All had, however, failed, and the trouble was pronounced by a noted specialist to be an incurable one. Her case had been diagnosed by one physician as a dreaded disease of the stomach, and later as another "incurable" disease. On account of my improvement after having Christian Science, she desired the same treatment, and in a few months was completely healed. Since that time she has been able to eat whatever she cares for and in any quantity. Before her healing she had lived entirely upon liquids, and even then suffered constantly.
