In comparing the present and the past, I can more fully...

In comparing the present and the past, I can more fully appreciate what Christian Science has done for me. For many years I was without health, and year after year I went from bad to worse, until in the summer of 1905 I had an illness which made my family and friends feel that the end was drawing near. The good doctors did all they could, and finally advised change of climate, water, etc., which was tried as soon as possible; but after several weeks' sojourn I came home with no benefit whatever. Christian Science was then brought to me in a practical way through the healing of a relative, who came to me, with a joy I can never forget, to bring the glad tidings of the benefits that she had received through the power of this great truth. I was entirely ready, as everything in a material way had failed to heal me, and I resolved to turn absolutely to God, the "great Physician," and at once began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In less than a week I was practically well, the book being then my only medicine, as it has been ever since.

There was a remarkable coincidence in connection with the book Science and Health. It had been in the house a year or more, having been given me by my dear son, who knew the healing power of its teachings, with the hope that my reading of it would benefit me; but on a slight investigation it did not appeal to me. I put it aside, and when I wanted it had no idea where it could be found, as during my absence some changes had been made in the house and everything was in confusion, the books especially having been packed away in various places, but to my surprise and delight Science and Health was readily found. I have since had many demonstrations in my family. Words fail to express my thankfulness to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for what she has done for me and is doing for all the world.
