It is with the deepest sense of gratitude that I send my testimony of healing through Christian Science. As a child I was subject to long illness and to morbid reflection, and by the time I was eighteen my sincerest wish was that I might pass on from this world in which there seemed to be no place or sympathy for the invalid and heartsick. I did not give up and go to bed, but for every half hour's exercise I spent several hours resting. After nearly a year's excruciating material treatment, which brought on nervous prostration, I gave up all hope of recovery. The memory of that dreadful time is so removed by the sense of Truth and Love that I now but faintly recall it. It was one of my early demonstrations in Science, not to be like Lot's wife, forever looking backward, instead of progressing toward better conditions. All I know is that after two years of almost constant suffering, with a very few treatments in Christian Science I was taken to the point where I could work out my own salvation. I returned to the school which I had been obliged to leave in the middle of my senior year, and the memory of that winter, with the victories won, and the summer following, which brought back my rightful youth, will ever remain the happiest of my life. There have been struggles since, mostly mental, and I have learned that uniform progress can be made only by daily study and demonstration. Through these I have been relieved not only of physical ailments but of worry, fretfulness, nervousness, hate, and other errors, and it is for deliverance from these, and for spiritual growth and mental development, that I am most truly grateful. I have learned that in seeking the kingdom of God these things are added.
To our Leader, who has unselfishly suffered the hardships of the pioneer in opening the way for her followers to realize the great blessings of a demonstrable knowledge of Christ Jesus' teachings, all honor is due, and I am glad that this day the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, "And mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands."
