In Time of Need
Mechanicsburg (O.) News-Letter
Mr. Editor.
In every age of the world's history God has revealed His truth according to the needs of the age. The discovery and application of steam, of electricity, of the art of printing, of the sending of messages by telegraph and telephone, and of late by Marconi's system without wire, did not come until there was a need for it and the age was ready to receive it. It was not the design of divine wisdom that Jesus should come in the days of Moses; the world would not have been ready for him at that time. Throughout all ages God has been speaking to mankind through God-fearing men and women, and His word is always a revelation to mankind. There is not an honest minister of the Gospel to-day who is not giving to his congregation thoughts of truth and love that God has revealed to him, and many of them have their sermons copyrighted and published. Through sermon and song and other channels God is inspiring mankind to lead a purer life. The Apostle James says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of Lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Knowing that from early childhood Mrs. Eddy has been a very devout Christian, a God-fearing and God-loving woman, it is not strange that God should make Himself and His ways known to her, so that she has been able to discern that spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures which enables her and her students to heal the sick and comfort the sorrowing. Insomuch as the writings of any author are the means of leading men and women to live a more upright and God-like life, those writings are inspired.
