I feel it is my duty to tell of the blessing I have received...
I feel it is my duty to tell of the blessing I have received through the understanding of Christian Science, and as I look back and see where I was when I first heard of Christian Science, in the valley of the shadow of death, I am very glad I was led to this blessed truth.
I had been most miserable. I could not rest, and the nights were long. I was in poor health for about three years, and my sister and I went to different doctors to see what they thought, but they gave me little hope. Later on. my husband took me to a specialist and he treated me a while until at last he told my husband not to bring me any more, that I needed a doctor to come and see me every day, and that he did not leave his office. When I got home I was very much discouraged. I longed to die, but oh, it seemed as if I had never loved my two children so much, and I dreaded to leave them. I was told I had consumption, and thought there was no cure for that. I want to say for the benefit of those whose demonstration seems to be slow, never get discouraged. My cough stayed with me over three years after I commenced treatment in Christian Science. I had many a struggle and at last I saw I simply had to overcome error or it would overcome me. I had to "Rise, in the strength of Spirit, to resist all that is unlike God" (Science and Health, p. 393).
The last doctor we had advised a change of climate, and at last I was compelled to go to bed, I was so weak.
The minister of whose church I was a member came to see me. After talking to me a while he asked me if I was prepared to die. I told him I thought I was, that I dreaded to leave my two children. He prayed a lovely prayer I thought, and I said to him, "If I ever do get well I am going to attend church regularly." He said, "You will never attend church any more in this world."
The next day my aunt came to see me and told me what she thought Christian Science could do for me. She told me how sick her husband had been, and after the doctors did all they could for him he was cured in Christian Science and was able to go to his office the third day. She said that was about all she could tell me, as she didn't understand much about it yet, and her husband had been cured only about a week. I had never heard of Christian Science before.
The practitioner was loving and patient. She encouraged me and helped me to realize the nothingness of matter and the allness of God. To mortal sense my demonstration was very slow, but I can truthfully say I am very thankful. It will soon be four years since I first heard of
Christian Science, and I can say that I feel I have been born anew.
I am very thankful to God for this message of Truth as revealed by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to others, who were a great help to me
