Between five and six years ago I turned to Christian Science...
Between five and six years ago I turned to Christian Science for help. A short time after I had the privilege of taking class instruction from one of our Leader's students, which I have found a source of great benefit and a very present help in all times and under all circumstances. This has enabled me to have many beautiful proofs over many different troubles, of one of which I would like to speak particularly, and which happened but a short time ago.
It was that of a severe and serious burn caused by the explosion of the best grade of rifle powder. One afternoon while cleaning and looking over some packages, I found this powder, which had been prescribed as a medicine for one of my children before I came to Christian Science. I took the powder with some papers into the cellar to throw in the furnace. Opening the door, I took out some live coals on a large shovel to see whether or not I had better throw in the package. Scattering a few drops on the coals, which instantly ignited, the blaze flashed up and setting fire to the rest, which I held in my hand in a paper, it went off, not with a hiss but with a report as loud as that of a small canon. it burned the under part of my wrist, and my arm half way to the elbow, the flesh on one side of my face, neck, and lips, the front of my hair, and singed my eyebrows and eyelashes. Instantly I denied the sense of error and looked to God, divine Love, who is omnipotent and our ever-present help in all trouble, and endeavoring to realize this, I was able to go on with my work, which seemed necessary, for about half an hour.
The pain of the burn then became so intense that I stopped my material work and taking up my little book. Science and Health, commenced reading, endeavoring to realize the truth which makes man free. In about half an hour all sense of burning had gone from my face, and a short time after from my wrist.
