The service of Mammon brings such large returns that it may come to seem contributory to the service of God. Probably nothing so degrades the Christian religion in the view of men of the world as the conformity of Christian churches and Christian believers to this doctrine of ethical bi-metallism. To see a man of the double standard accepted among the saints and a distinction permitted between the principles of the business world and of the Christian church, is enough to drive from the influence of religion many a man who has no rule of life but to be consistent and incorruptible in his daily work.
