Eastern State Journal
To the Editor.
Dear Sir:—I do not know from what source your contributor draws his information regarding Christian Science, nor from what premises he argues, but his information and his conclusions are singularly inaccurate and mistaken. The right to the title, "Christian Science," has been ably defended with so much success so many times, it seems improbable that any one will still challenge such a phrase. Science is the orderly arrangement of systematic knowledge on any subject. Christian Science is the true knowledge of God and His universe including man. Science must be susceptible of demonstration. Christian Science has amply proved its right to be called both Christian and Scientific by the thousands of cases of sin and sickness healed by its methods. No other argument is necessary to refute unfounded criticism.
Christian Scientists do not merely say that "sickness is not real" and leave the question there without further qualification. This point is made clear by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health, p. 460:—
