My experience in Christian Science dates from January,...
My experience in Christian Science dates from January, 1900, at which time one of my friends came to Christian Science. Our neighbors said she was going crazy on Christian Science. I met her in her home, and saw the matter in a very different light. I saw that she, to use an old-fashioned expression, was "soundly converted from darkness to light." Two or three days later, she told me it had occurred to her that she could lay off her glasses now, which she had been obliged to wear from early childhood, not being able even to sweep her floor without them. I saw her every day without her glasses on, for hours, at her window facing my house. She sat reading Science and Health, and I naturally concluded there must be truth in Christian Science, and, God being no respecter of persons, I said, I could and would lay off my glasses, which I had been obliged to wear nearly thirty years (being then seventy years of age). With my glasses I decided to lay aside my prejudice also, and investigate. My understanding was limited in regard to Christian Science, but my faith in God was strong.
At this time I was trying to cure a case of measles with magnetic healing, had been trying four or five days, but had signally failed. After learning something of Christian Science, I treated the child by offering a simple prayer of a very few words, and left him in God's loving hands. The one treatment healed him from being a very sick boy just beginning to break out with the measles, to one in health, and in just a few minutes. He said to his grandpa, "I am better; I am well." He went to the table, ate a hearty dinner, and before I knew it was at his play. No bad results following, the neighbors said he did not have the measles after all, but he did not have them again when exposed repeatedly.
I have not had to wear glasses since, and "bless His name" for giving us this heritage, this dominion.
