Shortly after I became interested in Christian Science,...
Shortly after I became interested in Christian Science, I was doing some work out on the road as a traveling salesman, and sometimes I would stop at a boarding-house for about two weeks. At one place where I stopped there was a lady who was unable to sit on the porch in the evening. Along in the middle of the summer the evenings were very delightful and the rest of us would be enjoying them very much; but she had a belief that if she got a draft of air, it would cause her great suffering, so she had been compelled for several years to sit inside. I was there only a few days when the subject of Christian Science came up and I talked with them a little about it. Within three days this lady was able to sit on the porch. She is now a loyal Christian Scientist and is entirely healed of that trouble along with several others. She had worn glasses quite a while, and was enabled to remove them.
Another lady suffered from severe throat trouble. She got the books and began to read them, and with what little I explained to her she was healed of the throat trouble.
A little girl was going into consumption. Another daughter in the family had passed away with it a few years before. This little girl was unable to go out and play as other children, she could only go to school now and then. Under Christian Science thought, she has become strong and hearty.
A gentleman at this same place, because of a little explanation of Christian Science, bought a copy of Science and Health, and within two weeks he was healed of the tobacco habit that had been with him for forty years. He had smoked at the rate of ten cents' worth of tobacco a day. He had no more desire for it. He was beginning to overcome various little troubles that came up.
So Christian Science is spreading in that way. It is mentioned by those who know of it, and others take it up, and the result is that they receive the benefit.
