Among the Churches

Christian Scientists gathered yesterday (December 22) for the first time in Cleveland in a place of worship of their own, the beautiful First Church of Christ, Scientist, being occupied yesterday morning. The building is one of the most beautiful places of worship in Cleveland. It has been under construction for more than a year and a half, and is located at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Kennard Street.

There was no formal opening of the new edifice, the services being the ordinary services of the sect, with the exception of an address of welcome to the new building by the First Reader, E. A. Merritt, who, with the Second Reader, Mrs. Lida S. Stone, conducted the exercises both morning and afternoon. The address of welcome was delivered at the morning service at eleven o'clock. The services were opened with an organ voluntary by Miss Mason, organist of the church, followed by an anthem by the quartet choir. In his address of welcome, which followed, the First Reader said in part:—

"We have been at work on this building so long that it is natural we should be highly gratified that we have at last realized the object for which we labored, a place of worship that is our own and one that is fitted for our meetings. It is with feelings of joy that we know that now we have a building in which we can meet and worship in the midst of surroundings that are so appropriate and beautiful. In this building we shall more and more perfectly understand the relationship between man and his Maker through the teachings of Christian Science."
