One day last winter I was playing hockey, and in trying to stop the ball, I was hit with it just above the eye. The force was so great that it nearly knocked me backwards, but I declared the Truth at once. The pain was intense for about two minutes, but after that my eye hurt me very little, only feeling a trifle stiff and sore. My friends wanted me to go into the house and apply material remedies; but I refused, and said that I would prefer to finish the game.

On going in to tea, several people came up and informed me that I would have a fearful black eye the next day; however, when I got home I found my eye only the least bit red and swollen. The next day it was well, being neither discolored nor swollen.

A short time before I had seen a similar accident at hockey, but the girl, not knowing of Christian Science, relied on material means, with the result that she had to call in a doctor, and wore a shade over her eye for more than a week, it was so fearfully discolored.
