Honest Individual Work
The success of any undertaking depends upon the honest work of every individual who has a part in it. One of the greatest needs of the world to-day is for honest, conscientious work on the part of individuals, from the humblest toiler to the man or woman who fills the highest position of trust and importance. On every hand is manifest the great need of increased spirituality in order successfully to grapple with and overcome the growing forms of evil. Honesty in all the affairs of life is necessary to gain the high degree of morality that is needed. Dishonesty of any kind or character, even in little things, stamps itself upon the individual and robs him of his power to resist evil.
An engineer makes the plans and specifications for a large, steel bridge which is to span some broad river or deep gorge. He realizes that his calculations must be exact and his work must be honest, even in the minutest detail. It is not sufficient that he give seventy-five feet as the measurement of a heavy iron girder when it should be seventy-four feet ten and three-fourths inches. His measurements must be exact even to the one hundredth part of an inch.
Unless the work of the engineer is exact the builder would find that the parts of the framework, made according to the specifications given him, could not be joined together. A lack of honest work on the part of the engineer would cause the builder to fail and his work would have to be done over again. On the other hand if the specifications are exact and the builder neglects to follow them, this will likewise result in failure. To insure success the specifications must be exact and the work must be honestly done in accordance with them.
