Christian Science in Hastings, Neb.

Hastings Daily Republican

Editor of the Republican:

In this city is a little band of people, quiet and unobtrusive, who meet twice a week to worship God in the way that brings to them the largest measure of peace, health, and happiness. They have no salaried preacher and no paid choir. There were but two of them a short time ago, and in their simplicity and confidence in God these two worshiped humbly by their own fireside in their own parlors. There has been no proselyting, no exhorting, no revival meetings, but these two found health where there had been sickness, peace where there had been discord. Discontent gave way to harmony and content. They knew they had gained a consciousness of the true God, who is "all presence" and "healeth all our diseases." In simplicity and with a heart filled with gratitude, they told their neighbors of the tangible and practical benefits they had received. Some sneered, some doubted, some accepted, found peace, and were healed. One after another took it up, till families met together to worship in their different homes. Then a small hall was rented and, that outgrown, a larger and better one was engaged. All classes are represented there: bankers, merchants, society leaders, and those in a salaried position with men under them. They attempt to force their views upon no one, and they criticise no one.

They are Christian Scientists. They have all accepted Christian Science, either by being healed personally or by the healing of some one near and dear to them. Their experience, through actual benefits received, robe them in a faith that nothing can shake.
