A Friendly Word

The Southern Advocate, published at Winfield, Kan., recently had the following to say concerning the Christian character of Christian Scientists:—

"Christian Science holds many theories that are scientifically and theologically at variance with our notions. If Christianity is an intellectuality, and if Methodism is to cast all its members into one intellectual mould, we cannot consistently keep a Christian Scientist in the church. But if character is to be the principal test, we think we may fellowship them. These Christian Scientists are not bad people. They teach that God lives and operates in us and through us; and that 'in Him we live, and move, and have our being.' They train the mind to think only the best thoughts and to believe only in good. They look on the bright side of everything and are cheerful, happy, contented, and companionable. I prefer them for my associates to some gloomy, despondent Methodists, who believe in a devil, and that such an one mostly controls the world; who believe in hell and think most of the people are going there; whose general experience is, 'How tedious and tasteless the hours;' whose favorite song is,
