The Mystery of Godliness

Ottumwa (Ia.) Press

"But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory" (I Corinthians, 2:7).

"Religion is a mystery; I cannot understand it," is an objection sometimes heard when individuals are asked to accept its claims. As a matter of course, there are mysteries in religion, the Bible is undoubtedly a most mysterious book or collection of writings. The Great Teacher admitted the existence of mysteries, and that the people were perplexed by them, when, as is recorded in Luke, 10:21, "In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes."

The Bible tells us that "Great is the mystery of godliness," and confesses that it contains some things that are "hard to be understood." Christian Scientists have in their text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," a veritable Key to the Scriptures, and feel more than grateful to Mary Baker G. Eddy, the author.
