Jewish Rabbi Becomes a Christian Scientist

Rev. Dr. Max Wertheimer , who has been the Rabbi of the Jewish Synagogue K. K. B'nai Yeshurun of this city for ten years past, severed his connection with that charge several months since. Last night, at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, it was announced that the Rev. Doctor had embraced Christian Science.

After the usual exercises the First Reader arose and addressed the large congregation as follows:—

Friends:—It is with pleasure that I announce to you this evening something outside of the usual order of events. On last Monday evening Dr. Max Wertheimer came to my house, unexpectedly, and made his application for membership in this church. I want to say that this was not done under impulse, but after two years' consideration and careful study of our denominational text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy. I wish specially to speak of this that you may know that you are not listening to a man on the outside of Christian Science, with only a kind feeling for us, but one who has officially severed his connection with his own church, and as far as it is possible at this time for him to do so, he has identified himself with this great cause of God and humanity. He needs no special introduction to you, for he is with us as one of us, an earnest seeker after Truth, one whom I believe God has called to this work.
