Eye on the world: Creating, not stealing

In “The best answer to commercial cybertheftThe Christian Science Monitor’s Editorial Board writes on a recent agreement between the United States and China “to work together to fight the theft of commercial secrets in cyberspace. The pact not only lays down a new international norm for honest and transparent competition. It also signals to countries, companies, and individuals that they must develop their own creativity—rather than steal ideas and technology from others.” As the Monitor notes, “The pact will only succeed if Chinese leaders now understand their people are quite capable of generating creative ideas, more so than stealing from others.”

Ideas on this subject:

From the Bible:

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” (I Corinthians 12:4–6 )

“Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good.” (Ephesians 4:28 )

From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:

“The creative Principle—Life, Truth, and Love—is God.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 502 )

In “Creative ability”: “... every idea of God expresses the same Mind, but in an individual and unique way; … there is, then, no trespassing on others’ reflection of ideas, and no need of it, since in the kingdom of heaven the supply of Mind’s ideas is as varied as it is exhaustless.” And “... [as one] realizes in all humility the magnitude of man’s reflection of creative Principle, he finds himself expressing what the world calls originality. But he knows in his heart that this originality is reflected from his creative Principle and that his creative ability is outlined by the Mind whose resources are infinite…. one can never come to an end of his development of intelligence and resourcefulness in his work.”

In “ ‘I'm just not very creative...’ ”: “God, divine Mind, expresses Himself endlessly through His ideas…. all of God’s children reflect spiritual abilities—and these include creativity and the wisdom that enables us to demonstrate it in an individual, God-impelled way.” And “We can discover spiritual inspiration, spontaneity, and originality in every worthwhile endeavor…. Mind’s creative activity can never be absent, dormant, or fruitless. Abatement of God’s creative power is unthinkable! And our oneness with this creative Mind is always operative.”
