Eye on the world: Prayer for progress
“Why progress endures,” a commentary in The Christian Science Monitor, points toward the reality of progress even amid the ups and downs that seem to affect our individual lives and the health and strength of nations.
“The healing effect of the Ten Commandments” describes how the author and her family were healed at a time when everyone appeared to be ill, through her use of the Commandments in prayer for progress in her community.
In “Brotherly love in action” the writer asks, “How can we learn to handle conflict more prayerfully and effectively?” She continues, “The Bible instructs us with many examples of brotherly love successfully eliminating friction and harmonizing families, friends, and foes.” She describes how she went from being a valued employee to having to defend herself against injustice. Her insistence on expressing brotherly love led to progress.
When progress seems stalled, or even declining, God’s help is there to stop your fall. “Overcoming despair in combat zones” describes the author’s work in helping others and also tells how to help yourself when progress seems impossible.
