Divine authority

At the first hint of dawn’s inevitability
peeking through my window
I’m reminded of the glowing
glorious authority
of God’s omnipotence

wiping
from my dreamy eyes
the futility of
yesterday’s regrets and
tomorrow’s uncertainties

and instilling instead
a higher perspective
a right understanding
that can only

that Love
which lifts the veil of night
and inspires a meaning-filled day;
which “forgiveth all thine iniquities;
. . . healeth all thy diseases” Psalms 103:3

which guides the stars in their courses
unfolds the towering oak from the acorn
colors the fowl’s fancy feathers
imbues man with majesty and
dominion over the earth

and which, this morning, rouses me
from my indolence and inertia
to behold “A world more bright” Poems, p. 12  
the grandeur and infinitude
of His supreme authority.
