Turn up the volume on 'Good'

Have you ever wondered how you can become more conscious of God’s presence throughout your whole day? How you can feel more consistently inspired by God? How you can be sure you are “hearing” God? When this desire wells up in me, I am encouraged by thinking back on an experience I had several years ago that involved our son, Colin.

Colin went to college several states away from home. While there, he picked up the bass guitar. (We soon learned that he was spending more time playing bass than studying, but that is another story!) He eventually joined a band, and you can imagine how excited we were when he presented us with their first CD.

Can you also imagine how disappointed I was when I listened to it and couldn’t hear his bass guitar? I mean, I could hear the band, but I just couldn’t pick out the sound of Colin’s bass. And since he had started playing bass after he left home, I had never heard him practicing, so I didn’t really know what I was listening for.
