Waiting for a job?

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

A couple of years ago I was waiting for a new job. I’d left my last position, feeling at odds with the direction of the company. So I did the traditional resume preparation and began networking in my field. But more importantly, I regularly devoted time to prayer—to aligning my thought with God. As a Christian Scientist, I understand God to be my Father-Mother. And because I’m His beloved offspring, I can rely on Him for protection, wisdom, and guidance.

I spent many hours at a local Christian Science Reading Room that provided a quiet place to read and pray where I had access to a number of different study resources. One of my favorite things to do was to dig into the archives of articles and testimonies from the Christian Science Sentinel and Journal. Anyone digging into these treasures will find over a hundred years of writers sharing not only spiritual insights, but remarkable physical healings. It was enlightening to skip around and see how timeless the Truth is, despite the different times in human history.

As I prayed, I tried to be as humbly open to God’s direction as possible, and gained some beautiful spiritual insights from studying the Weekly Bible Lessons. I realized that if I was going to let God guide me I had to leave behind all preconceived notions about salary, position, and location, and completely trust that He would bring me into the situation where the blessing would be greatest for all. I was ready to go, just waiting for God to reveal His plan.
