Take a load off

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

In today’s high-octane, 24/7 lifestyle it’s easy to feel burdened by the things we have to do. How do we take a load off when the pace doesn’t seem to let up?

Some time ago I was stressed by a volunteer effort I’d signed up for. It was my job to distribute posters and flyers through Central London for a nonprofit event. While I felt the event would really help others, I was very timid about what I was doing. Frankly, I would rather have been anywhere else than throwing myself at the mercy of strangers, asking them for a favor.

The feeling of burden I was carrying around wasn’t helping me or anyone else. Consequently, I hadn’t been successful in getting the promotional materials posted in public places. People weren’t accommodating my requests, and I couldn’t blame them. I knew I wasn’t approaching them with much joy or even expecting success.
