The day started with tennis and ended with healing

Originally appeared on spirituality.com.

Not long ago, I was playing tennis with my husband, Chris. He generally wins, so when I noticed his serve wasn’t as strong and exact as usual I wondered what was wrong. I asked him if he was okay, and he admitted that his arm felt extremely painful. He didn’t want to quit, but by the end of the set, he could hardly hold his racket.

While most people would seek medical attention in a situation such as this, we prayed. Both of us have seen the power of prayer in our lives when we diligently turn to God in times of need. Such prayer has led to more quick and complete healings than I can count.

We discussed some laws of God that we have learned through our study of Christian Science. We reminded each other that God is ever present and that in His presence, pain is impossible because God is solely good and powerful. We also remembered the Bible’s message that man—meaning both men and women—is made in God’s image and likeness. We could count on this as a spiritual fact about who and what we are, namely God’s spiritual ideas.
