Neighborhood clean-up starts with a change of thought

Earth Day was established 36 years ago, on April 22, 1970. It has since evolved into a worldwide campaign to protect our global environment. I’m grateful we have this established marker to remind us to honor the earth and to take care of it.

I care deeply about our world, but its environmental problems can be daunting, especially for one individual. And different cultures deal with these issues differently. What one society considers a priority isn’t necessarily important to another.

I’ve learned a lot about cultural differences since I moved to Spain with my husband, a native Spaniard. I’m originally from the United States. Living in Spain has opened up a whole new world for me. Immersed in a new culture and language, even everyday happenings are fresh—like eating sweet, juicy melon on a hot summer day, or hearing the gentle bells of goats passing by our home.
