Feuding neighbors mend fences with kindness

My husband and I bought a house right next door to Norm’s Drive-Through Convenience Store. We liked being able to buy milk, bread and pop a short distance from our house. But convenience soon turned into annoyance.

For a while we got along great with Norm, the owner. But one day when my husband was out mowing our lawn, he asked Norm if he would mind picking up the trash blowing around his parking lot so it wouldn’t end up our yard.

That simple request ignited an all-out war. Tempers flared as my husband and Norm exchanged heated words—in fact, as I watched, I thought one of them might even throw a punch. To avoid this, I pretended we had to run an errand and asked my husband to come with me in the car.
