A husband renews his marriage commitment

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Susan and I had been married for 14 years and had three wonderful young children. But beneath the happy surface of our lives, our relationship was slowly crumbling.

The difficulties developed quietly, without being obvious to either of us. I enjoyed my work and we had a reasonable income. But between the demands of my job and needs of our children, Susan and I led independent, separate lives. She maintained the home and cared for the children. I went to the office, worked on home maintenance projects and coached the kids in sports.

Our marriage worked like a business partnership. We kept very busy, doing our own thing, only needing each other to keep the family running smoothly. There was love and respect, but no deeper partnership.
