Bethlehem To-day

On a night of stars and singingA babe is born,Wrapt in humility,And cherished tenderly,And safely carried into EgyptFrom the wrath of Herod.

"Blest Christmas morn"*

Now dawns within my consciousnessThe first faint gleams of light —The star of Bethlehem rising; Its beams dispel the nightWhose clouds of sense would seem to hide God's presence from my sight.

As are the Silent Stars

As when some person, city-worn, has comeUpon an open space quite suddenly,And there has felt the freedom of the windUpon his face, and blessèd touch of stars,Silent beyond the pointing poplar trees; So I, this present hour, bound all about—Or as it seemed—with mist of many minds,Have come upon a breadth of space, and thereHave caught a sudden, starlit glimpse of Truth,Have felt the glad caress of angel-winds,And tasted of reality.

I Know No Care

I know no care,For Love is here;My only thought,To prove Him near,That I may daily sow Truth's seed,And help to meet a brother's need.

Divine Love

Love divine!Long years I searched the meaning of these words.

Our Prayer

When we think of mighty MosesAnd the tribes of Israel,How he led them unto CanaanFrom the very depths of hell; How he smote the rock for water,How he talked with God untilAll his countenance was shiningAnd his very soul was still—Oh, we want to be like Moses!Give us grace, O God, to beMeek and mighty, just like Moses;Give us, Lord, humility.

The lilies at the dawn of dayHeld lovely faces up,Where fragrance, beauty, color.

Thou Art All

Oh, Life! Oh, Love! I know,If in Thy presence I would be,Dwell in Thy love forever free,Reflecting truth that is of Thee—I know that Thou alone to meMust be my All.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

What am I thankful for to-day?

Thanksgiving

We thank Thee, Father, Lord of all,For blessings sent before we call,For Life and Love that cannot cease,For strength and rest and joyous peace,For health and hope and better cheer,For knowing all is Thine, and here.

My Prayer

O Make my life a light that glowsMore bright from day to day; That those who toil in lonelinessMay look and find Thy way!
