THE PEACE OF GOD

Under gray skies the wind blows keen and cold—The day is bleak, the world seems dead and old;But all within me glows a soft, strong light,For God is here and in Him is no night.

HEAVEN HERE

When, upward turned our longing eyes,We pray that God be near,—E'en then, while soaring to the skies,Our God is pleading here.

PERCEPTION

When birds are gone from bush and bough,God's music is not fled;Nor when embosomed in the snow,Are tiny green things dead.

THE CHRIST-DAWN

The Love-light breaks!Across the deep of sin's black nightI see the priceless pearl of lightGleam tenderly with hope's soft ray—The far-off promise of the day.

A HYMN

Like as the early autumn breezeGoes chanting through the hilltop treesIts joy and happiness,Let me my voice, like David, raiseIn psalms of thanks and grateful praise,And Thy great goodness bless.

COMMUNION

This is a day of gladness, and my heartAccepts with joy and love the better part;Communes in secret with the One above,Omnipotent and omnipresent Love.

HYMN OF PEACE

These things shall be! A loftier raceThan e'er the world hath known shall rise,With flame of freedom in their soulsAnd light of knowledge in their eyes.
IN Thy pure sight, O wondrous eyes of God,Naught but the perfect thought is ever seen; For every serpent-fear, behold, a rod!On which the erring human sense may lean.

THE VOICE OF TRUTH

THY guiding voice, O Truth, in thought I hear, Rebuking error, stilling grief and fear! My heart its healing benediction shrines; And lo, like sun-surf purpling hillside vines, A rush of radiance ripens power and cheer.

TEACH ME

TEACH me to watch when mortal night is deepest, Assured there comes a passing of the night, When I may open wide my Father's window And point the rousing dreamer to the light.
