MY WORK IS AT HAND.

Why should I wish to face some problem great,As though to reach the sooner heaven's gate?

MY COMMUNION

In silence deep there comes to meA sweet assurance of God's care;Life, Truth, and Love encompass me,I know that He is everywhere.

Stand bold for peace, for love and truth,For these against the world contend; But be thou careful not to loseWhat thou art zealous to defend.
O trustless heart, that findsThe ghostly phantom evil in thy way,Lift up thine eyes to seeLove's glorious sunshine playAround the terror grim,—And lo, it is not! It was never there,For all that is is Love divine,Love infinite,—the clearLight of thy life,—God's love is everywhere.

I DO NOT FEAR

What is this message from the spheres of silence—This Spirit-music which I, waiting, hear?
Let me but live my life from year to year,With forward face and unreluctant soul, Not hastening to, nor turning from, the goal; Not mourning for the things that disappearIn the dim past, nor holding back in fear From what the future veils, but with a whole And happy heart that pays its tollTo youth and age, and travels on with cheer.

THE LIGHT OF TRUTH

Count not the years, eternityIs ours, age hath no pow'r to mar:Our God is Life and Love and Truth; There is no age, there is no youth; No limitation on man placed,God's attributes in him are traced.

THE MOTHER'S EVENING PRAYER*

O gentle presence, peace and joy and power;     O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,Thou Love that guards the nestling's faltering flight!     Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight.
A little thought and a little care,A little tenderness now and then,A gracious speech and a courtly airMay give one rank among gentlemen; But he who merits the highest place,Though clad in homespun he be, 'tis true,Is one who carries a heart of grace,And is really a nobleman through and through.
