Highway

Bring low my mount of selfishness, O God,Exalt the darkened valley, till a roadLofty but level, smooth and straight, appears—Thy highway, where my humbled, following feetMay tread henceforth in lightness; where the tearsWill rise no more, and where my soul,Freed from the phantoms of the mortal load,In selfless journeying may find its peace.

Mount of Prayer

Sweet mount of prayer! With earliest morning lightMy waking thought with joy ascends to thee;Within thy quietude I seek God's face,And always find Him waiting there for me,Waiting to gird me with His strength and power; He knows my need, and that throughout the dayMy trusting heart will turn to Him each hour,And seek His loving counsel all the way.

Reflection

The moon is full tonight; Its gentle lightBathes all around in beauty, yet that beamIs only the reflection of a rayFrom the majestic sun that rules our day.

Gratitude

SING to God a song of gladness!Hymns of praise and cheerBanish error-thoughts and sadness,Cast out thoughts of fear.

Messengers

Twas nothing but a common little flower—A bit of bloom beside the dusty way—Yet of its best bestowing hour by hour,The cheer it gave the traveler, who can say!

The Call

I heard a great cry that went up toward heaven,As if from human hearts by bitter painAnd ill-rewarded toil and grief oppressed.

Right Desire

BECAUSE my being everlastinglyIs in Thine image, and to do Thy willSustains me, for Thou gently leadest me,I know Thine omnipresence, and am still.

Confidence

AND if tomorrow come, I shall not fear.

So Near is God

O CHILD , though dark the night, Lift thought above the sod; Look up and see the light– So near is God!

Peace

And Thou wilt keep his life in perfect peaceWhose mind is ever on Thy goodness stayed.
