THE STILL, SMALL VOICE

Weary beneath the juniper,Seeking oblivion in sleep,Elijah heard, "Arise and eat,"And found that sustenance was there.

AND MANY BELIEVED

It must have made Peter's heart singWhen, after he'd called DorcasBack from the shadow of death,The people of Joppa seeing, believing,Gave all the praise unto God.

OUT OF EGYPT

Still the cloudy, fiery visionMoves before our lifted gaze,And the world and its derision,Its allure, its dusty praise,Never dim this present wonder,Only bid our hearts to prayThat Mount Sinai's tenfold thunderKeep our footsteps in the way.

THE ROAD TO JERICHO

Dusty the road, in the heat of day,The road leading on to Jericho!Stripped of his raiment, by robber's blowWounded and faint, the traveler lay.

INSPIRATION

Let me keep the windows of my thoughtClean, clear, and bright,That the sunshine of eternal LoveMay enter and lightMy candle of inspiration.

NOT SERVANT, BUT SON

We seek You, Love,As ever we must seek to know our source.

THE WATCH

Like some sleep-fighting child, I cling to fear,With rest more close than hand-reach at my willOnly by bidding pain-nagged sense be still,Grasping the far-sought gift that lies so near.

EXEMPLAR

What may Thy servant do this day, dear Lord,To win a weary traveler to Thy door?

QUIETUDE

Let me be so quiet, Lord,So near and dear to Thee,That I can hearThy still, small voiceWhispering truthTo me.
