I must admit I felt a twinge of disappointment when I read the editor's note at the bottom of page 22 in the December 27 issue, which says that "I really do need church," by James Raynesford, is the last article in the year-long "Church lives" series.

'As I was reading the Christian Science Bible Lesson for Thanksgiving 2004, I came across these passages in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "As aforetime, the spirit of the Christ, which taketh away the ceremonies and doctrines of men, is not accepted until the hearts of men are made ready for it".
