Some members have found great blessings in taking more seriously, especially during recent years, a brief reference, in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, to not circulating incorrect literature.
"Is not the propagation of the human species a greater responsibility, a more solemn charge, than the culture of your garden or the raising of stock to increase your flocks and herds?
Students of the Manual of The Mother Church will recognize this as the title of Article XXIV, a careful study of which makes evident the remarkable and rigorous system of checks and balances that Mary Baker Eddy established to safeguard the finances of her Church.
"If we can aid in abating suffering and diminishing sin, we shall have accomplished much; but if we can bring to the general thought this great fact that drugs do not, cannot, produce health and harmony, since 'in Him [Mind] we live, and move, and have our being,' we shall have done more.
"The Constitution of the United States does not provide that materia medica shall make laws to regulate man's religion; rather does it imply that religion shall permeate our laws.
