Protection in river rapids
Many years ago my husband and I decided to take a river trip. We found a group going down the Yampa and Green rivers in Colorado. It was a very exciting prospect—until we met our guides, who told us they had never been down that part of these rivers with the water so high as a result of heavy rain.
They offered a bus to those who would rather turn back at that point, but my husband and I decided that we would rather carry on. We thought it sounded like fun. We climbed into our rubber raft with the rest of the group and headed downstream. It was an exciting ride with a lot of rapids, so we had to hang on to the ropes.
Suddenly, as the waves got higher, we saw a man on one side of the river waving a towel at us. He was beckoning us to come over to his side of the river. But it was too late. A gigantic rock was right in front of us, and the raging river was going straight over it. Because I was at the front of the boat, I was the first to go over the rock. As I went over, I declared, “God governs!” I felt assured, knowing that God, who is good, was in control.
