“Go forward”— a Sunday morning healing

One Sunday, I woke up with a severe headache. Although it felt overwhelming, I tried to continue with my usual morning activities, hoping it would pass. When the pain intensified, though, I knew I needed to pause. I felt a deep spiritual nudge to turn wholeheartedly to God for healing.

The topic of that week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly was “God the Only Cause and Creator.” Studying this Lesson during the week, I had felt truly inspired, especially by the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage. One verse in particular had stayed with me: “The Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward” (Exodus 14:15). And that Sunday morning, the divine directive to “go forward” resounded in my thought with fresh urgency.

As I prayed quietly, I felt the presence of the “still small voice” of God (I Kings 19:12) encouraging me not to fixate on the discomfort but to continue in preparation for the morning’s church service. I knew that Church, as defined, in part, in the Glossary of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is “the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 583). And I knew that healing could unfold right there, in that sacred atmosphere.
