Concussion symptoms disappear

One winter, years ago, our then ten-year-old son went snowboarding with a friend on a small hill in town. When he returned home, his friend’s mom told me he’d fallen and hit his head pretty hard. She said it didn’t feel like an emergency, but that he’d wanted to come home after the fall.

Shortly after our friends left, he began to exhibit symptoms of concussion. I stayed with him, assuring him that God is ever present and all powerful. He was learning this in Christian Science Sunday School each week, and I trusted that these loving ideas would bring comfort and healing. I had had healings growing up as I learned the reliability and demonstrability of Christ Jesus’ teachings as explained by Christian Science. Our son and his sister had also experienced consistent healing through Christian Science treatment.

I was praying as I cared for him, but I suddenly became very afraid. So I prayed even more vehemently to know that God is ever present. At other times I had proved God to be “a very present help in trouble” (Psalms 46:1)—to be immediately available. And I knew that God, good, is the only cause and creator, thus the source and maintainer of all life—in fact, Life itself. God is not the cause of physical actions and reactions, such as accidents and injuries. God is also Spirit—the source of all true action, which must therefore be harmonious. These ideas helped me to refute fear and remember God’s ceaseless care for His creation.
