No longer inflamed
Fever-pitched?
Feel the cool balm of
the ever-presence of God, good,
quelling the terror, the inflamed thought
with the sweet assurance that
no heated argument,
no underlying jealousy,
no fierce extreme
has any power, influence, or importance.
Our oneness with the Father
calms the inferno of
hate, ugly disagreements, careless behavior,
rampant distrust,
an ill-attuned sense of self-promoting
entitlement.
These malignant, mortal meanderings
wither away in the light of God.
“Take from us now the strain and stress.”
My woes vanish.
“Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire.”
The heat subsides as
once again
the calm order of life,
“The beauty of Thy peace,”
is restored through God’s tender care.
So “let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.”Christian Science Hymnal, Hymn No. 49
Tranquility.
