Healing after a fall
Some time ago, I was doing some shopping in our local village. It was raining and rather slippery underfoot, there having been a hard frost the night before. As I hurried along the sidewalk, holding my umbrella and my shopping bags, I slipped and fell heavily on one knee.
As I fell, I heard myself saying, “No accidents!” I had instinctively turned to an idea articulated in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that makes it clear that accidents are unknown to the divine Mind, God (see p. 424).
I realized the importance of remaining focused on the allness of God, Spirit, and not on what the physical senses were reporting. I recalled these words from Science and Health: “Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be” (p. 397).
