Christ Jesus

These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils.

Devils or demons (Greek, daimonion) was the term for evil spirits believed to be responsible for physical and mental ills. Destroying them was central to Jesus’ ministry and teaching, and he conferred this ability on his disciples as well (see 3:14, 15Matthew 10:8, Responsive Reading; Luke 10:17). Here, just prior to his ascension, the Master reminds his close followers of this Christly power.

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
