Freed from depression and mental disorder
During a difficult time more than twenty years ago, my husband and I grew apart. I was a member of The Mother Church in Boston and an active member of the Christian Science Society in Tema, Ghana. One day my mother-in-law, who had wanted my husband to marry someone from her own tribe, unilaterally declared our marriage ended. Within the hour my husband came home and forcibly took our two small children away, saying I would never see them again. All efforts to get my children back were in vain.
I became very depressed and mentally ill. I was so confused and did not know what was happening to me.
There were Christian Science practitioners in Accra whom I could have asked for help through prayer, but something always held me back. I felt as though I could not pray at all. This went on for about two years. The turning point came when, roaming the streets late one night, I humbly asked God to show me where I should go. I left it entirely to Him, just putting one foot ahead of the other with no direction in mind until I came to a bus station, where I boarded a bus going to Tema. I returned to my parents’ house and have lived there since.
