Paralyzed thumb regains normal movement
Healing in the way Christ Jesus did over two thousand years ago may seem radical and revolutionary. And yet those who follow the teachings of Christian Science understand that turning to God for healing is a natural, practical, present possibility. Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science over a hundred and fifty years ago, explains: “The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus’ time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. xi).
I had an opportunity to see the law of divine Principle, God, operate in my own experience when one of my thumbs became stiff and was very painful when I tried to move it.
At first I was tempted to view the problem as an effect of age—as caused by material laws associated with aging. But then I began thinking about how Christ Jesus would have addressed the problem. According to Science and Health, Jesus beheld all men, women, and children in divine Science. That is, he comprehended the spiritual truth about them. He saw everyone as spiritual and perfect, just as God created them. And the result of this correct view was healing—freedom from human discord (see pp. 476–477).
